Today, imagine waiting in a long line to be served, when you are starving, and you can smell the food, but it’s not yet in view. This experience can also feel sometimes like waiting for the Lord to answer our prayers. In our world today, most necessities in life can be obtained rather quickly, but in the Bible, waiting upon the Lord is often associated with an attitude of trust, patience, and dependence on God and His timing. “But let patience have her perfect work, that ye may be perfect and entire, wanting nothing.” James 1:4. We must demonstrate, not only, our faith, but our patience as well. It involves a willingness to surrender our own plans and desires to God’s will and His own perfect timing, a time to seek His guidance and strength in all things. Throughout scripture, we can find God’s plans to guide us safely down that pathway, which leads us ultimately to victory and Him. If only we’re willing to wait…”If you are willing and obedient, you will eat the good things of the land.” Isaiah 1:19.
Below are some powerful ways to build a fortress around your mind and your prayers:
- Prayer – Spend time in prayer, seeking God’s will and asking for His guidance and help. Philippians 4:6-7 says, “Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus.”
- Meditation on the Word of God – Spend time reading and meditating on the Bible, seeking to understand and apply its truths to your life. Psalm 1:2 says, “But his delight is in the law of the Lord, and on his law he meditates day and night.”
- Trust – Trust in God’s character and promises, knowing He is faithful and able to fulfill His plans and purposes. Proverbs 3:5-6 says, “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight.”
- Patience – Wait patiently for God’s timing, knowing He is sovereign and has a plan for your life. Psalm 27:14 says, “Wait for the Lord; be strong and take heart and wait for the Lord.”
- Obedience – Obey God’s commands and follow His leading, even when it is difficult or inconvenient. Psalm 119:60 says, “I will hasten and not delay to obey your commands.”
By following these scriptural principles, we can successfully wait upon the Lord in a way that honors Him and allows us to experience His presence, peace, and guidance in our lives. Wait again, I say upon the LORD!
